I was recently introduced to the project Instant Hutong by artists Marcella Campa and Stefano Avesani, and I am completely floored. The work is so smart and so beautiful, I would love to be able to see it in person. They made a series of carpets based on mapping the old hutongs of Beijing. Each hutong (a city area made up of alleys, courtyards and residences) is represented as its own autonomous neighborhood with the big city. Many of these neighborhoods are being demolished to make way for new roads/modern buildings. Keep that in mind while looking and go here to see more.
